This is water | This week at Invide (Week 40, Oct 22)
There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swims on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “What the hell is water?”

🔶 9 Things to make your remote work easier

Hello developers, 👋

Back in 2005, David Foster Wallace gave a commencement speech to the then-graduating students at Kenyon College. This speech is really amazing in the way it starts with a parable, "What is water?" and then goes on to talk a great deal about things adults will face in life.

From, daily routines of eating, working, and sleeping. To once in a week grocery shopping. And then doing the same mundane thing, over and over and over for years and years until you die. And that's how life will become. You will graduate from college with all your might, power, and time in your hands. To slowly wither through time. Weak bones, bleak skin, and banal existence. And that's life.

But wait, "What the hell is life?"

I'll leave it here. For you to ponder and think, behind all these routines that we didn't choose and the fun we never had. There must be a choice. But in order to make that choice (or choices) we first need to understand things that are hard to see yet lie in front of us in plain sight.

But for this week, let's leave it at this. We'll talk more about philosophy later. And why don't we focus on Git & GitHub, instead?

Getting started with Git & GitHub | Community Event

Okay, so this is an important tool to learn. Git is a version control system that allows developers to collaborate over projects and do version/release control of ongoing development projects.

This blog here by Bhupesh explains Git & Git Worktrees in detail.

Get your git game up with git worktrees
Git worktrees helps with working on multiple things at once in git. It is a better alternative to “git stash”. Learn how to use worktrees in your daily git workflow.
